Under a bill currently before parliament, people who make party pills and other legal highs will have to be proven safe before they can be sold. That's a great move and we support it, but we are concerned that the bill does not prevent animal testing of recreational drugs. More
The Green Party strongly supports sensible regulation of party pills, legal highs and other psychoactive substances. Whenever animal testing is proposed, we need to be sure that the benefits to society justifies the level of suffering involved and that all non-animal means of testing for safety have been properly considered.
The Green Party is welcoming the Government's u-turn on the use of the controversial LD50 test to verify the safety of party pills, but is calling for Peter Dunne to reject all testing of party drugs on animals. More
