Dunedin based Green Party MP Metiria Turei says that a new stadium is not the best solution for Dunedin’s sporting or social needs.
“There is no doubt that Dunedin’s community is passionate about their sports. There is an obvious need for a premier sporting venue, but it has not been established that a new stadium is wanted or beneficial to the Dunedin community.”
Green Party MP Keith Locke is asking the Government and New Zealand Olympic officials to challenge Beijing’s censorship of websites available to those visiting the Games.
“Our officials can’t stay silent while China blatantly goes back on its pledge to allow those reporting the games free access to the internet,” Mr Locke, the Party’s Sports Spokesperson, says.
Two of the country's most acclaimed bands - Little Bushman and The Phoenix Foundation - are joining forces with the Green Party to push the environment and quality of life into the election year debate.
“I'm really excited at being involved in bringing together these inspiring musicians,” Green Party candidate Gareth Hughes says.

Green Party MP Keith Locke wants the Government to ensure the Black Caps tour of Zimbabwe doesn’t go ahead.
New Zealand Cricket is saying it won’t stop the tour on its own, and suffer penalties under International Cricket Council rules. The ICC, at its conference this week, decided that Zimbabwe Cricket would remain a part of the Future Tours Programme.
Green Party MP Keith Locke wants New Zealand to back Britain in getting Zimbabwe cricket kicked out of the World Twenty20 next year.
“We’ve got to use every bit of leverage we have against the Mugabe regime,” said Mr Locke, the Green Party’s Sports Spokesperson.
“Following the English example would also mean cancelling the Black Caps planned tour of Zimbabwe next July.
