David ClendonCandidate for Helensville ElectorateBorn 1955Lives in Mt Albert, AucklandList position 10In recent years I have been engaged in educating people who will be able to lead, direct and manage change in our social, economic, cultural and natural environments. I would now like to apply my energies, professional and life experience into a more overtly political sphere. I believe that my immersion in the Green Party over many years, along with my academic and business experience, has prepared me to represent and advocate for the party’s aspirations to see a more peaceful, more just, and ‘greener’ world David Clendon is standing for the Green Party in the Helensville electorate at list position 10. David stood for the Green Party in the 1992 Rodney local body elections, and was a Parliamentary candidate in the 1999 and 2005 general elections. BackgroundDavid has a BA in Education and Politics from the University of Auckland, an MSC (honours) in Resource Management from Lincoln University and Certificate of Higher Education from Unitec. He has worked as a lecturer in politics and resource management, but is now at the coalface of eco-enterprise, advising small and medium businesses on how to make their whole enterprise more sustainable. Helensville-born, of Ngapuhi/Te Roroa and Pakeha heritage, David is committed to campaigning actively on issues within the electorate. Community involvementsDavid is active in a number of environmental protection groups, community organisations (including residents/ratepayers and school board of trustees). He has also provided professional expertise and knowledge to assist various NGOs, particularly in planning and resource management. “The Genesis proposal to put a power station at Kaukapakapa does not make environmental, economic or social sense. The Greens will mobilise with others in the local community to oppose this controversial project. We will also support keeping Whenuapai as a defence facility, not a commercial airport.” AchievementsDavid has a partner and an adult daughter. Interests/hobbiesHis preferred transport mode for visiting clients is aboard a Piaggio scooter, which is both highly fuel efficient and indulges his passion for all things two-wheeled. AdditionalDavid believes that in a rapidly-changing world change is the only constant.
