I live by the Green charter; I have specialist areas of knowledge to contribute and academic skills to give credibility; I have extensive Green involvement and a working relationship with the leadership, the MPs and my province; I can communicate well with public and media; I have connections to community networks that the Greens do not yet reach well; I am constructive in a team and a strategic thinker; I act positively, confidently, critically and passionately.
Quentin is a first-time candidate but long-time Green Party activist and staff member, and was the campaign manager of the Greens’ highest polling electorate in 2005 (Wellington Central). Quentin was brought up in the village of Otane in Central Hawkes Bay, part of the Tukituki electorate. He is 32 years old. Prior to his first job for the Green Party in 2004, he had worked in small business management and IT systems installation.
Quentin's academic achievements include a Masters degree in New Zealand Studies from Victoria University of Wellington, and undergraduate degrees in Music and Theology from the University of Auckland. His Masters thesis investigated forms of nationalism in New Zealand. He works as a Parliamentary advisor to the Green Members of Parliament with environmental and conservation portfolios.
At University, Quentin became involved in progressive religious, social and environmental groups, including attending international events and training for Student Christian Movement Aotearoa. These community and activist involvements complemented study in progressive theology, focusing on social justice in the New Zealand context. During this period he also spent valuable time with progressive movements and people in Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand and Australia. He has also worked with children and young people; coaching soccer teams and teaching te reo Maori pronunciation and phrases.
Quentin spends a lot of time exploring New Zealand's wild places from Raukumara to Fiordland. He is involved in the Mountain Safety Council and Federated Mountain Clubs, instructing safety training and advocating for conservation and recreation values. His worldview is informed by strong family, social justice, and welfare ethics.
