A dedicated multiculturalist, I work to bring together the Greens and the Maori Party for leading New Zealand to the complete and spiritual sustainability we all seek, with social justice and economic wellbeing in ecological harmony. It is both privilege and pleasure to join the proud and effective Green Party organisation, and there work assiduously to advance the full range of our environmental and social policies through the 2008 election campaign.
Rik Tindall was born in Christchurch and describes himself as Ngati pakeha.
His previous occupations and work experience, in both paid and unpaid positions, include historical researcher, technical writer, small business owner-operator (computer hardware maintenance), bank worker; farm labourer (overseas), waiter and dish washer, shop assistant, clerk (Greater London Council and London Residuary Body), hammer hand, gardener, adult literacy tutor, PC tutor, business mentor and outdoor recreation guide.
Rik has a B.A. in Political Science & History, Honours in History, and a Certificate of Business Computing. He is currently a Canterbury Regional Councillor (Christchurch East) and a Computer Consultant in Free & Open-Source Software support, training and advocacy. He has studied Maaori culture and language at Victoria University and a Polytechnic Te Reo immersion course.

In public policy, Rik has experience in Waste Minimisation, from his electronics recycling background, Information & Communications Technology and Science through his studies and career, and in Treaty Issues.
Rik joined the Green Party in 2006, becoming a Green Room volunteer and attending many meetings including ICT support, South Policy Conference and Annual Conference 2007 (as Banks Peninsula delegate). He helped organise and conduct Banks Peninsula member calling, assists the Christchurch East Branch, and was the Aoraki-endorsed local body candidate in 2007.
Rik spent time in left and peace movements in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. In New Zealand he has been involved with Greenpeace; the Gulf Crisis Peace Committee of Otautahi/Christchurch; Health Service & Benefit Cut protest groups and an Education Action Group fighting fees in the early 1990’s; Paakaitore / Moutoa Gardens occupant in 1995; the Christchurch Polytechnic Students Association Executive and a fee protest bus tour to Parliament.
He was a founder and member for 18 years of the Legal Defence Union for protestors doing trade union solidarity work. Since 2000 Rik’s community involvement has included the Canterbury Linux Users Group, founder of GNU/Linux Users workshops, Software Freedom Day team leader, Peace Action Network, founder Middle East Solidarity Group and Save Our Water local body campaign.
