Join us for 'Picnic for the Planet' - a celebration of our world and the people who are proactive in keeping it beautiful and peaceful.
When: Sunday 24 January, 11am-4pm
Where: Frank Kitts Park, Wellington Waterfront
You can listen to Metiria talking about it here
Picnic for the Planet is the first Green Party event of each year, and has become a landmark in the annual political and media calendar. It is a day of festivities centered on the Co-Leaders' State of the Planet speech where Metiria will talk of how we can work for social justice and environmental protection.
We are incredibly lucky to have two new exciting guest performers since advertising for the event begun. Amazing Wellington vocalist, Jess Chambers will be accompanied by a mandolin player. And our special guest, Nandor Tanczos will DJ throughout the day between bands setting up.
Jess Chambers is opening the event at 11am, Metiria will speak at noon, Zarigidum and Newtown Rocksteady will play in the afternoon.
And if the kids don't feel like having a boogie with you or relaxing in the sun, they can join the fun activities in the Kidzone. At the Kidzone, the little ones will be busy with a scavenger hunt and creating some art work.
There are many stall holders at the event including Oxfam, Unite, Greenpeace, Kai o te Aro and Innermost, Living Economies, Zapatista Support Group, Downtown Ecotherapy and Transition Towns who will be providing plenty of information and activities.
So please, bring a picnic, or enjoy some of the delicious food and drink for sale, and come and enjoy a marvelous day of celebrations.
When preparing for the day, please bear in mind that this is a SunSmart event. There is some shade provided, but you are welcome to bring your own umbrella, and as always... Slip Slop Slap and Wrap! :)
