The Global Greens is the network of the world’s Green parties and political movements, the only global political family that stands up for the environment, peace, democracy and justice. From tiny beginnings in 1972, it has grown to 88 parties in 82 countries. Today elected Greens are in the forefront of change in local, state and national parliaments in countries and in the European Parliament.
The Global Greens Congress is the Global Greens' key decision-making forum. It has been held previously in Canberra, Australia (2001), and Sao Paolo, Brazil (2008).
Global Greens Dakar 2012 (GG2012) is the first Congress to be held in Africa and is organised jointly by the Global Greens Coordination, African Greens and FEDES (Fédération Démocratique des Ecologistes du Sénégal).
Its key themes are strengthening the Global Greens and tackling today’s most pressing global issues: peace and democracy in Africa and beyond, climate change and energy, protecting biodiversity and a global Green New Deal.
As well, the Global Young Greens will be holding their third Congress on 27-29 March in Dakar, there will be a Rio+20 NGO forum on Thursday 29 March, and meetings of Greens from Africa, Americas and Asia Pacific.
