Information and Communication Technology

The way we communicate, learn and do business is changing rapidly - new developments in telecommunications and information technology are constantly emerging and New Zealand is quick to take up new solutions. Information and communication technology (ICT) has a huge potential to benefit our society through wide access to information, more productive business and a way to share ideas and experiences without travelling huge distances.

We welcome these exciting opportunities while believing that the development of ICT must proceed in an environmentally and socially sustainable manner. ICT provides new opportunities for the public to participate in decision making, but it is important that opportunities do not depend on wealth. The benefits of ICT need to be shared across society and not used to concentrate power and money for the few.

Free, Open Source software is a great way of making technology available to as many New Zealanders as possible, and helps us to help ourselves, rather than being stuck with what huge multinationals have to offer.
