Kia ora The new National and ACT coalition agreement includes privatising parts of the education and welfare systems. They plan to set up business-run charter schools, a model which has failed overseas and will drain much needed funding from state schools. Another part of the plan is to bring in private companies to provide work and income services to people looking for work. Private companies profiting from welfare has led to more poverty and inequality in the UK. These policies do nothing to address the growing inequality in New Zealand and will in many cases make life harder for our most vulnerable citizens. The Green Party is committed to a New Zealand where everyone gets a fair go - we need a quality free public education system and a social safety net that puts children first not the profits of private companies.
