Kia ora
Our thoughts are with the people of Tauranga, who are watching New Zealand's worst marine environmental disaster unfold before their eyes.
Kia kaha to all those who are working around the clock on the clean-up and salvage efforts. Our MPs are on the ground in Tauranga and we are doing everything we can to help. We will also speak out when we think things could be done better.
One thing we're sure of is that New Zealand is not ready for deep-sea oil drilling. We have struggled to respond quickly to the Rena disaster, and an off-shore oil spill like we saw in the Gulf of Mexico last year would be thousands of times worse. Let's take Rena as a lesson, and end plans to allow drilling in our waters.
On a different note, the information campaign about the MMP referendum has started. Check out the Campaign for MMP for more information about why MMP is the fairest system for New Zealand.
