A recent Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries survey of antibiotic resistance in animals found some alarming results.
It found antibiotic resistant bacteria in 35 percent of poultry, 55 percent of pigs and more than half of calves.
This is of great concern. It contributes to the spread of antibiotic resistance and can be passed to humans consuming meat.
