Another town, another highway

The Green Party today warned communities along the path of John Key’s election schedule to cancel all appointments with the would-be Prime Minister or risk having a multi-lane highway fast-tracked through their town.

0% able to identify where their food comes from

A quiz of 100 Wellingtonians in Manners Mall today highlights the urgent need for mandatory country of origin labelling of our food, Green Party Health Spokesperson Sue Kedgley says.

“Not one person out of 100 people was able to correctly guess where the eight foods in our quiz come from,” Ms Kedgley says.

Green Light for Community Conservation Fund

Involving the community in conservation is a highly cost effective way to maximise public involvement and support for conservation initiatives. The projects set to be funded will further empower communities to return to a relationship of kaitiakitanga with their natural environment - restoring a local stream is one of the most practical steps we can take to act locally in response to massive problems like climate change and the loss of biodiversity.

Key cornered on different ETS versions

John Key’s attempts to evade discussing his party’s position on the Emissions Trading Scheme came to an abrupt end today when he was cornered by Green Party Co-Leader Jeanette Fitzsimons in a Paraparaumu mall.

Public demonstration against the Basin Reserve flyover

Despite public consultation urging against the Basin Reserve flyover, the Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC) has recently agreed on plans that would see construction begin in 2011/12. Of the submissions received by the GWRC regarding the flyover, 79% did not support its construction. Wellingtonians have been ignored.
