The Pasifika Greens Network (PGN) works to represent Green Party members who are New Zealanders with Pacific Island ancestry from Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, Niue, Tokelau, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and others. Everyone is welcome to apply to become a member of the PGN.
The Pasifika Greens Network was officially launched on Sunday 29 April 2012 in Waitakere, Auckland, as the majority of members and supporters currently live in Auckland. Future planning and strategic work by the network will see its role expanding to other regions in New Zealand.
Shortly after the launch, the PGN commemorated Samoa's 50th Independence Anniversary in Glen Eden Auckland on 26 May 2012, with many Green Party MPs and the Green Party's Male Co-Convenor attending. Eight of its members also attended the Green Party AGM in Wellington on 1-4 June 2012. Members are currently participating in the 'Keep Our Assets' petition campaign by the Green Party. The Network is also recruiting for new members and supporters as an ongoing activity and planning for its future development.
Four of our members have completed the Leadership and Development Symposium Training in Auckland and are now putting their knowledge and skills into practice. Two of our members have shown their interests to stand as candidates for an endorsed Green Party ticket in the Auckland local body elections in 2013. About ten of our members joined the 'Advance Pasifika-March For Our Future' on Saturday 16 June in Auckland city on behalf of the Green Party.
Future plans by the Pasifika Greens Network include holding a fono (a hui, or gathering) in Auckland; completing a strategic year plan; holding elections for a female co-convenor and other roles; and completing a fundraising plan for future activities by the network. Pa'u Tafa Mulitalo has been elected as an interim Male Co-Convenor for the Network.
If you want to join the Pasifika Greens Network, or offer to assist the Network and the Green Party in any field of expertise you may have, please contact our Co-Convenor Pa'u Tafa Mulitalo on ptmulitalo [at] gmail [dot] com.
