"The importance of sustainability embodied in the Green Philosophy fuels my passion and pride to campaign for what must be a Green future." John says "I have read extensively on climate change, energy and drug law reform, and with a background in science, can discuss these subjects objectively and positively."

Background

Born in Whangarei and long-time resident of Wanganui, John has travelled extensively, lived and worked overseas, and also lived on a community for 18 years.

Achievements

John has a background in science, currently working as a Science Technician at DSIR. He owned and managed an accommodation business for 10 years, and has also worked as a home care helper, college tutor and photo printer.

Community involvements

John was involved in establishing Sustainable Whanganui, which has recently succeeded in getting Wanganui to Transition Town status. He is a trustee of Wanganui’s River Traders Market, increasingly popular as it promotes “buy local” and healthy food. He has long been involved in the Wanganui Environmental Network, particularly in local recycling and cycling issues.

Additional

John says "I am very concerned and fired up about the importance of the environment to our future on this planet. Social issues are also too often given second place to economic considerations and need discussion to adjust priorities."
