A huge press statement by AgResearch today in which it tries to justify its application to genetically engineer a wide range of animals, plus human and monkey cells, inadvertently shows sad downsides to GE research such as deformed foetuses and calves. It admits a less than 9 percent live birth rate, aborted deformed foetuses, deformed calves and gangrenous udders but strangely denies there are animal welfare concerns.
The Green Party has decided to support the ETS after winning agreement that money would be recycled into a Billion dollar fund to make New Zealand homes more energy efficient and cheaper to heat. A price on carbon will encourage sustainable alternatives to our energy wasting and unsustainable way of life, but this ETS will only reduce emissions by about 2 percent. Far more than that is needed, and quickly, if the world is to avoid dangerous climate change.

The National Party's new energy policy is a tribute to cronyism and makes no economic sense. No one with any common sense would invest in more subsidies to fossil fuels when New Zealand is so well endowed with renewable energy.
Green Party Co-Leader Jeanette Fitzsimons describes Matthew Hooten as ‘indulging in some wishful thinking’ in the Sunday Star Times this week.
A huge application to genetically engineer a wide range of animals, plus human and monkey cells, side-steps a government promise to deal with GE applications on a case by case basis. It could allow AgResearch to develop unlimited numbers of GE animals without telling us what alterations they are making.
The Green Party is disappointed in the decision of Marlborough District Council to grant resource consents for Trust Power’s hydro scheme on the iconic braided Wairau River
