Last year’s referendum results showed there was a strong mandate from voters to keep MMP, so changes should be about strengthening, not weakening our voting system.

The Green Party welcomes the MMP Review, launched today by the Electoral Commission, following the success of MMP in the 2011 Referendum.

"This review process gives the public the chance to have their say on how MMP works and we encourage all New Zealanders to get involved and make a submission," said Green Party Electoral Reform spokesperson Holly Walker.

"Last year's referendum results showed there was a strong mandate from voters to keep MMP, so changes should be about strengthening, not weakening our voting system.

"MMP is a fair system because everyone's voices are heard. We need to ensure that any changes to MMP protect people's right to representation.

"It's important that all political parties compete on a level playing field and we hope that any changes to the system will ensure this."
