The Green Party and Loop Recordings continue to push the boundaries of contemporary culture and politics with the Green Room 002: Wahine album, released nationwide on July 16.
Wahine is a celebration of women's voices and the diverse and unique spirit of Aotearoa women. It follows the huge success of Green Room 001: Eco-Nation, already on to its third pressing and a mainstay of the New Zealand cafe scene since its release one year ago.
"The success of the first album was phenomenal," said Green MP Nandor Tanczos. "It backed a powerful message with great grooves and I can't think of a better way to get wise with the world we live in.
"Wahine is also very strong. It is an eclectic journey through contemporary music genres with two undeniable threads: its got soul and its got style."
Loop Recordings Aotearoa have produced an outstanding collection of the some of the best of New Zealand female vocal talent, featuring tracks from Anika Moa, Teremoana Rapley and Nat Rose, and collaborations with SJD, Trinity Roots and Epsilon Blue.
Nandor said the album accurately reflects the vitality of the New Zealand arts and culture sector, which he believed was in great shape.
"The strength of the album can be indicated by what was left on the cutting-room floor. There was so much original music to choose from, it was closer than a conscience vote in Parliament.
"The Green Party is proud to be associated with such a fine collection of the crispest musical biscuits to come out of this country since… the last Green Room CD.
"The spoken word from MP Metiria Turei is fantastic. I suggested dropping it because it made my track on Eco-Nation look sad," joked Nandor. "I guess Green MPs are blessed with many talents."
The Green message will go global in early 2004 with the international release of Eco-Nation via German label Select Cuts/Echo Beach. Wahine will also go worldwide in 2005.
