We must find ways to ensure that the voices of the people of Christchurch are listened to. It is their lives, homes and city that have been shattered and need to be rebuilt.

Christchurch can be a model of a green city that delivers prosperity and protects the environment. The city can be designed to reflect 21st century values and technology. The principles of sustainable design for buildings, transport and green spaces can be used in the Christchurch rebuild.

We also need to future proof Christchurch and build in resilience to earthquakes, rising oil prices and environmental hazards.

Report: The Future of Christchurch

Our report summarising the results of four public forums and feedback from individuals is available now:

Loss of democracy

Suspension of elections in Canterbury

We have campaigned strongly against the removal of democracy in Christchurch. The extension of the appointment of Commissioners to the Canterbury regional council was done on a flimsy basis. This sets an unacceptably low benchmark for the removal of democracy.
