Darleen brings a lifetime of environmental mahi, business experience, and grassroots activism to the Green Party Kaupapa. Born and raised among her hapū and marae in Te Tai Tokerau with whakapapa connections right across Aotearoa, Darleen has always had a very clear sense of being, tikanga, and purpose.
The mauri, mana and tapu of all in the natural world informs the quality of relationships that she holds. Naturally inquisitive, she is always eager to explore beyond realms of commonly-held knowledge in order to seek out new opportunity or pre-empt issues that may be important for the well-being of the collective.
Darleen holds degrees in Chemical Technology and international Business Management with senior leadership experience in European telco (1997-2014), and SME manufacturing/retail in e-mobility here in Aotearoa (2014-2020).
However, it was her reconnection with te ao Māori that made her change out completely and go to work hands on in the whenua and moana these last years. She has worked on multiple protection action campaigns and supported tangata whenua and communities to address environmental issues, combining matauranga Māori, STEM, and business along the way.
She will continue to bring communities together to co-create similarly across her portfolios.
