In loving memory of Jeanette

It is with a profound sadness that we mourn the recent passing of Jeanette Fitzsimons. Our hearts go out to Jeanette's whānau in this difficult time.

The first female co-leader of the Green Party, she is often referred to as "the mother of the Green movement in Aotearoa". She was the walking embodiment of our charter; championing our principles of ecological wisdom, social responsibility, appropriate decision making, and non-violence in parliament.

As she did in life, her legacy will continue to guide the Green Party. The foundations she laid and the vision she set will forever be present as we endeavour to create a better future for Aotearoa.

Help us celebrate Jeanette's life

You are invited to join us for a celebration of Jeanette Fitzsimons’ life on 20th July from 2.00pm to 4.00pm at the new Cathedral of St. Paul in Wellington. Refreshments will be provided in Loaves and Fishes next to the Cathedral afterwards from 4pm. Please RSVP here to attend this special celebration.

While our planning for the memorial was delayed due to the unforeseen circumstances we all faced this year, these unprecedented times showed us like no other the importance of staying connected. As such, we have arranged for the memorial to be live streamed online so those who cannot join us in person are able to share in this celebration of Jeannette’s life.

If you would like to attend online, please RSVP here to let us know you’ll be watching and receive the online memorial details.

If you are a Green Party Member, you are additionally invited to self-organise with your branch, province, or network to watch the memorial online together. Simply find a peaceful place you can all come together, cast the livestream on a screen, and toast to Jeanette’s life. Please reach out to your branch or province convenor if you would like to find out if there are local watch events, contact details here.
