The Green Party is shocked and heartbroken by the terrorist incident in Christchurch.
Today, we are filled with aroha and compassion for our Muslim communities, for all migrants, for refugees and for Christchurch. We hear your voices and feel your deep hurt and fear today.
We will stand with you to confront the grief and aftermath of this tragedy together. We both attended the Auckland vigil in support of the victims today. James Shaw visited communities in Christchurch with other Ministers today.
There are difficult conversations ahead for Aotearoa. The Green Party is committed to Te Tiriti, diversity, equality and peace. We will not overlook the clear examples of white supremacist and fascist ideology that surround this incident and have gone unchallenged in New Zealand for too long.
We will advocate for action that will address and prevent this hate and violence. We will do everything we can now and in the days ahead to tackle and stop the racism and hate behind extremist violence.
On behalf of the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand, kia kaha, kia manawanui.
