Green Party Co-leader Marama Davidson will be speaking at the annual Waihopai spy base demonstration this Saturday January 26, protesting against international spying which puts the human rights and privacy of global citizens at risk.

“The Waihopai spy base represents a worrying culture of spying that is dangerous to society. There would be outrage if the state or corporations reached into our letter box and opened up our mail, why is it okay online?” Green Co-leader Marama Davidson said today.

The Green Party welcome the National Party to the drug law reform conversation, with Paula Bennett announced today as the party’s spokesperson on the issue. 

“We welcome the National party turning its attention to the issue and look forward to a productive, considered, and evidence based debate to reduce harm in our communities, and as we move towards the referendum” Green Party drug law reform spokesperson Chlöe Swarbrick said today.

With temperatures high around the country, Associate Health Minister Julie Anne Genter has launched the Ministry of Health’s new Heat Health Plan Guidelines.

“Climate change is a big threat to our society, and we need to plan for anticipated weather like hotter days now,” says Ms Genter.

“Although it is great to enjoy the outdoors, getting too hot is a serious risk that will happen more in our future. Our health will be impacted by climate change, and we need to ensure we are all ready.

The Green Party congratulate E tū Sistema members who have secured a collective agreement that will ensure a 16% pay increase and a commitment to always pay workers above minimum wage.

“We know people employed at Sistema work tirelessly long hours and deserved a pay increase. I have no doubt that the 16% increase to all members will go a long way.

A second report released by Police yesterday shows that the previous National Government established a secret intelligence group involving oil and gas companies, Thompson and Clark, and state departments including the NZ Defence Force, Police and MBIE to protect the interests of the oil and gas industry.
