Born in Te Wai Pounamu, raised in the Hokianga. Lived in Tāmaki Makaurau for twenty years, studied at the University of Auckland becoming involved in student politics as Tumuaki of the Māori students. Graduated with a BA/LLB while a single parent of daughter Jewel.

Advocate for social justice especially the criminal justice system. Significant work, publications and advocacy for housing and a lifelong passion to improve the housing standards for people in Aotearoa New Zealand. Advocacy for the reduction of stigma and discrimination for those experiencing mental health stress and distress. Strong advocate for te reo, tikanga Māori, te ao Māori and access to Māori medium education.

Advocacy for the reduction of emissions and climate change adaption policies specifically within Auckland Council. Wrote the Independent Māori Statutory Boards first ever climate change position. As a small business owner, strong advocate for the circular economy, social procurement and localism.

Currently living off grid on tupuna whenua in Mangamuka with husband Shane and tamariki Tiari, Tangaroa and Tangata. Currently involved in whānau and hapu mahi feeling inspired by the tireless mahi of whānau who look after the marae, the marae community.
