We celebrate diversity and work to eliminate all institutional discrimination in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Rainbow communities are entitled to equal opportunities in law and in practice

  • Same sex couples should enjoy the same legal rights as heterosexual couples, including their suitability to be parents, such as for couples seeking to adopt a child.
  • Discrimination on the basis of gender identity should be illegal.

Public health services should cater to rainbow communities

  • Specific health programmes should be developed and delivered in partnership with rainbow communities.
  • Healthcare professionals should have access to education and training about rainbow communities.

The public education system should empower rainbow students

  • Sexual orientation and gender identity should be included in teacher training.
  • Schools and rainbow youth organisations should be encouraged to work together to reduce drug abuse and suicide.

Community development should empower people

  • Government should support the development of adequately resourced community centres, outreach programmes and events, and the creative self-expression of people with rainbow identities through drama, literature, and the arts
  • New migrants to Aotearoa New Zealand should have access to information about rainbow communities.
  • Aotearoa New Zealand should take an active role internationally to promote human rights issues in relation to rainbow communities and people throughout the world.

We should recognise the non-binary nature of gender

  • Government should actively address the healthcare and other needs of transgender, intersex, and genderqueer people.
  • Intersex people should be involved in public policy decisions that will affect them.
