We know it’s not just four walls that makes a home. It’s somewhere warm that keeps out the winter draught and stops us from getting sick. It’s somewhere that’s secure, without fear of controlling or unfair landlords. It’s somewhere that we can put down roots, raise our tamariki, and become part of a community.

To solve the housing crisis, we know we need to completely rethink housing in Aotearoa, and that’s exactly what our Homes for All Plan sets out to do.

Our transformational housing package improves the quality of our homes, makes them more affordable, and improves our relationships with our landlords.

Our Homes for All Plan will:

  • Deliver enough affordable rental homes to clear the social housing waiting list within five years.

  • Stimulate a sustainable non-profit rental sector by offering Crown financial guarantees for community providers to build new rental properties.

  • Encourage community housing projects, by removing funding and regulatory barriers.

  • Expand the current Progressive Home Ownership programme to help people towards home ownership.

  • Expand the Warmer Kiwi Homes programme so more of our homes are warm, dry, and keep us healthy.

  • Make renting fairer through regulating property managers, and introducing a rental Warrant of Fitness.

  • Overhaul the building code, so new builds are warm, dry, energy efficient, and accessible.
