Everyone should be treated equally, with access to what we need to live a good life.

In government we've fought to implement policy that ensures everyone gets a fair go and that we reduce the inequality experienced by women, young people and Māori in particular.

We've achieved a huge amount

Incomes for women are increasing through better starting salaries and addressing systemic bias in the public service.

We've introduced a bold new model to get all of government working together with communities to address and ultimately end family and sexual violence. We've won the largest ever budget package to fund critical services and passed  legislation to put victims’ safety first and prevent people being re-traumatized by the justice system.

Our mental health pilot that focuses on young people will help support the next generation live strong healthy lives.

Drug law reform means young people are no longer instantly made criminals and are instead diverted to health-based support.

Govt support for te reo / Māori language teaching in schools has been boosted with 600 new advocates being introduced to schools.

Major housing reforms are underway, to make renting fairer, to restart state house building, and our progressive home ownership policy is being rolled out so that people who rent can get a foothold in to homes they own.

Our landmark report into welfare  has provided a roadmap to overhaul our social support system.

And we need to go further and faster

We’re committed to doing what’s right, to build a fair society so everyone has access to what they need to live a good life. Whilst we have made great progress, we need to go further and faster to tackle the inequality experienced by women, young people and Māori in particular.

Our policy is to introduce an immediate increase in the core benefits this term to unlock people from poverty.

We also understand visionary change is needed that tackles institutional racism, supports women and the role of all carers in our society, and rebalances things to give our younger generation more choice and opportunity.

There's a huge amount to do and we will be announcing new policy and big, bold ideas as part of the general election in 2020.
