The Green Party today welcomed the settlement of the nurses’ dispute that will give them a decent pay rise. “Nurses, who are at the heart of health care, have historically been underpaid and undervalued,” Green Party Co-leader Marama Davidson said. “It is great they have fought for and won their battle to be paid reasonably and to have more staff employed so they can safely carry out their vital work.” “Given how much nurses have been neglected by the previous...

    Jan Logie May 10, 2018 11:00 AM
The National Party’s decision not to support the Domestic Violence – Victims’ Protection Bill through Select Committee is out of touch and playing politics with the lives of people affected by domestic violence, says the Bill’s sponsor Green MP Jan Logie. “National are putting the unfounded fears of a few businesses ahead of the safety of domestic violence victims and their communities,” says Jan Logie. “National are on the wrong side of the evidence, modern business practice, and history.” The...

  • Missed target for workplace inspections lets workers down

    October 25, 2016 2:45 PM
A sudden drop in the number of workplace interventions by the Labour Inspectorate suggests that the Government isn’t doing enough to support the basic rights of people at work, the Green Party said today. Interventions to ensure compliance with minimum workplace relations standards fell 25 percent from 2,500 last year to just 1,851 this year, according to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s annual report. This year’s unmet target was 2,500-3,000 interventions. “Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Michael Woodhouse...

  • Parental leave veto: National chooses excuses not families

    June 16, 2016 1:54 PM
National’s decision to veto Labour’s paid parental leave Bill today is another example of the Government choosing to make excuses instead of doing what’s right for families, the Green Party said. The Bill had enough support from other parties in Parliament to become law and extend paid parental leave from 18 weeks to 26 weeks. “The Government should be doing what’s right for babies, parents, and families because that’s what’s right for the whole country, but National is full of...
