Press Release: Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand

The Auckland Province of the Green Party has endorsed Efeso Collins for Mayor of Auckland.

The endorsement follows a consensus decision making process that agreed his campaign has strong alignment with Green Party values and the party’s vision for Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest city.

The endorsement is the first time the Green Party in Auckland has decided to formally endorse a mayoral candidate independent of the Green Party.

“Efeso would make a fantastic Mayor of Auckland. His vision for climate action, addressing the inequality crisis, housing as many people as possible, and restoring our urban ngahere- would go a long way to delivering on a Green vision for our city.” says Green Party Co-Convenor for Auckland Cameron Wright.

Local government in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland is a strategic priority for the Green Party. The party is putting forward a platform of candidates across Auckland Local Boards and Council Ward areas for election. Our candidates will push for more urgent climate action, environmental protection, and social equity outcomes, whilst upholding local democracy and the mana of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

“The Greens received over 65,000 votes in Auckland in the 2020 General Elections and we are proud to say to those voters that we’ve had a good look at Efeso’s platform and we’re impressed by what we see,” says Wright.
