The Green Party says the ACT Party's Fiscal Plan, released today, hands more money to the super-rich and pays for it by cutting support for disabled people.
“The ACT Party’s Fiscal Plan is welfare for the wealthiest. 47,000 more children are living in poverty today than were three years ago. This plan continues to shovel money upwards, starving everyone else,” says Green Party Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick.
“The cutting of KiwiSaver Government contributions and removal of tax on gains will most benefit the richest, and they know it.”
“At the same time, ACT is saying the quiet part out loud, budgeting cuts worth hundreds of millions of dollars to support for disabled people. These New Zealanders are often on the lowest incomes and have already had support cut by this callous Government.”
“This Government talks a lot about its ‘hard choices,’ like their decisions to cut pay equity for 300,000 of our lowest paid working women while dishing out $3 billion in tax cuts to landlords. It’s clear who they think they work for, and it isn’t the working people of this country.”
“The Green Party has a real economic plan. We will ensure the wealthiest pay their fair share, cut income taxes for 96% of New Zealanders and invest in the basics that will reduce everyone’s cost of living while improving our resilience,” says Swarbrick.
