Who we are

We are a movement made up of regular everyday people from all walks of life.
From healthcare workers, teachers and kaumatua to politicians and business people: we are a diverse community working towards protecting people and nature.

Our Vision

At our core, the Green Pary are driven by hope for a more equitable and sustainable Aotearoa New Zealand. A country where caring for each other and the environment is the foundation for how we live.

Everyone in Aotearoa deserves a chance at a good life. A warm, safe place to call home. Enough kai on the table. Good public transport and services. Communities we can be proud to be a part of. Politics should be driven for the people, not private profits.

We care deeply about te taiao, our environment. This means clean rivers, healthy ocean and  thriving native forests. We want to protect the world that we know New Zealanders love, and restore what has been damaged. Being good ancestors so that our environment can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Equity is at the heart of everything that we do. That means an economy that shares wealth fairly. Public funding should go to where it’s needed most: healthcare, education, housing, resilient infrastructure. A system built on making sure everyone has what they need.

Everything is connected. The health of our environment, the strength of our communities, and the wellbeing of our people are not separate issues.

When one is harmed, we are all affected. When everyone is cared for, we thrive together.

Our Charter

This is the founding document of The Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand. The Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand accepts Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the founding document of Aotearoa New Zealand; recognises Māori as Tangata Whenua in Aotearoa New Zealand; and commits to the following four Principles:

Ecological Wisdom

The basis of ecological wisdom is that human beings are part of the natural world. This world is finite, therefore unlimited material growth is impossible. Ecological sustainability is paramount.

Social Responsibility

Unlimited material growth is impossible. Therefore the key to social responsibility is the just distribution of social and natural resources, both locally and globally.

Appropriate Decision-making

For the implementation of ecological wisdom and social responsibility, decisions will be made directly at the appropriate level by those affected.

Non-Violence

Non-violent conflict resolution is the process by which ecological wisdom, social responsibility and appropriate decision making will be implemented. This principle applies at all levels.
