Dilapidated Pink Flats textbook example of why we need a Warrant of Fitness

Families living in dilapidated conditions in a boarding house in Whanganui further demonstrates why a Warrant of Fitness for housing is required, Green Party Co-leader Marama Davidson said today.

Families living in dilapidated conditions in a boarding house in Whanganui further demonstrates why a Warrant of Fitness for housing is required, Green Party Co-leader Marama Davidson said today.

“The Pink Flats, where a single mum is having to bathe her kids in a mouldy bathroom, is a textbook example of why we desperately need a Warrant of Fitness in Aotearoa.

“People who live there have repeatedly asked for repairs and have been ignored. Now children are ill.

“No one should be able to charge rent to pay off their mortgage on an investment property when their property is dangerous and making children sick.

“You can’t sell or lease a dangerous car in New Zealand, there’s checks to ensure that doesn’t happen.

“The Government is currently consulting on WOF for boarding houses, I urge the community to feed into this and share their experiences.

“We need a Housing Warrant of Fitness in Aotearoa so that all houses are safe, warm and dry, no matter where you live”.
