The Green Party backs the Tertiary Education Union members who are striking across universities and polytechs today to demand better pay, better conditions and more support for the sector.

"The Greens stand in solidarity with striking tertiary workers all around the country. Tertiary education should be recognised and properly funded as the public good it is” says Green Party tertiary education spokesperson Francisco Hernandez.

"Whether they’re lecturers, researchers, librarians, administrators or allied staff, our tertiary sector workers deserve fair pay and good working conditions.

"The Greens know that tertiary staff around the country are tired of endless rounds of restructures and unsustainable workloads.”

"A strong tertiary sector is key to making New Zealand a place with greater innovation, creativity and educational opportunity."

“The Greens will support the sector by providing a dedicated funding boost to tertiary, science and research sectors of $225m a year as part of our plan for economic ambition in Aotearoa,” says Hernandez.
