The Green Party has announced at the March for Nature in Auckland that, if elected, it will ensure that conservation land is managed for nature, not for profit, and that there are strong limits on activity that might harm the wider environment.
“Today, people from across Aotearoa have stood up yet again against the Coalition Government's attacks on nature and public conservation land. The Green Party is marching with them because corporate interests should never come at the expense of our communities and environment,” says Green Party Co-leader Marama Davidson.
“This Government continues to make laws for its rich mates. Environment and conservation laws are being gutted, while public input and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations have been disregarded.
“Today, I am announcing that when elected, the Green Party will put people and nature before corporate profits. We will ensure public conservation land is for nature, not for profits and that environment is protected from corporate greed."
The Green Party commits to:
- Removing the Coalition Government’s ‘economic imperative’ for public conservation land.
- Putting in place strong evidence-based limits to protect ecosystem health.
- Affirming Te Tiriti, and the role of tangata whenua as shared decision-makers and kaitiaki in the new resource management system.
“Today, people have shown up in droves to say yet again that they want nature protected. The Green Party will represent them in Parliament every step of the way.
“We all depend on nature and a healthy environment. From clean drinking water to thriving wildlife, the protection and restoration of our environment are non-negotiable,” Marama Davidson says.
