The Green Party welcomes today’s publication of Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown’s Manifesto for Auckland, noting an enormous amount of alignment on the key issues.

“Wayne and I agree on getting things done,” says Green Party Co-leader and Auckland Central MP, Chlöe Swarbrick.

“Auckland doesn’t suffer from a lack of hard work, creativity or innovation. We have been held back by a lack of alignment and respect between central and local government, and a lack of investment, coherent economic planning and support for our natural environment.”

“The Greens are committed to working with Auckland Council to progress a sensible and affordable infrastructure pipeline, along with rules that reduce the cost of living, bust congestion and support a thriving environment and economy.”

“There’s a lot in this Manifesto which Wayne and I have already discussed and agree on, and there’s more to progress, test and get on with.”

“The Greens have already committed this election to protecting 30% of the Hauraki Gulf, introducing a bed levy and a register for short-term accommodation, and an ongoing, respectful partnership with local government on value-for-money investment in transport.”

“If we do what we’ve always done, we’ll get what we’ve always got. To date, that’s been legacy parties - and, Luxon's Coalition - throwing their weight around and patronising locally elected members who Ministers seem to forget are put into office by, and serve, the same New Zealanders.”

“The Greens are the real party of localism. We’re on the side of Aucklanders, local government and New Zealanders,” says Swarbrick.
