Kahu Carter (she/her/ia) Christchurch Central

Ngaati Maniapoto, Tainui.

I am a first-term Green Party MP based in Christchurch Central. I was raised in a small farming community in the Waikato with a strong connection to Papatūānuku, and spent decades working across environmental advocacy, education, and community wellbeing.

Before entering Parliament in 2023, I worked within Kōhanga Reo, at the Ministry for the Environment, and as National Manager of Para Kore, supporting communities and organisations across Aotearoa to reduce waste through kaupapa Māori approaches.

Since becoming an MP, I have been a strong advocate for children, disabled people, rainbow communities, mental health, and climate action. I am most proud of chairing the cross-party inquiry into mental health, and I am passionate about building a future where everyone has access to warm homes, quality healthcare, education, and a thriving environment.

A familiar face across Christchurch Central, I am campaigning to win the electorate and elect the most Green MPs ever. I love Christchurch and the people that call it home, and I believe together we can truly cement it as the best city in Aotearoa.
