Luxon's Government has wrecked New Zealand’s climate policy and reputation

The Green Party says the latest analysis from Climate Action Tracker paints a clear picture of the climate vandalism of Luxon's Government.

“Three years ago in Parliament, we called out the Prime Minister's lies about climate policy. New analysis shows we were right to do so,” says Green Party Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick.

"Luxon and his Government have chosen to shred climate action and protect polluters' profits, knowing that costs New Zealanders. These staggering rollbacks put him in the Donald Trump league of climate deniers.”
“Instead of protecting our farmers and investing in food resilience, the Government chose to weaken targets and neglect any transition, leaving rural New Zealand and our food supply extremely exposed to climate change charged storms.”

“Instead of enabling electrification of our economy, Luxon has thrown $200 million in taxpayer money to subsidise new fossil fuels, and plans to underwrite a billion dollar LNG import facility. We've become the first and only country to withdraw from an international alliance to phase out oil and gas, and they've knowingly put our Free Trade Agreements at risk.”

“Instead of investing in cheaper, cleaner and more efficient transport to bust congestion, Luxon has ploughed billions into poor value roads and fast-tracked sprawl, increasing car dependence and emissions.”
“The report spells out that if we're to believe the Prime Minister when he says he's committed to the Paris Agreement, that necessitates him paying billions to get other countries to reduce their emissions because he's refused to do that here at home.”

“It's clear the only plan Luxon and his mates have is to keep stripping our environment and screwing over hard working New Zealanders in service of corporate profit.”

“It does not have to be this way. Only a vote for the Greens will support our country's transition off fossil fuels and lower emissions at source, protecting us from the costs, risks and destruction of climate change while lowering the cost of living and improving all of our quality of life,” says Swarbrick.
