The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) has once again misjudged what is an appropriate use of taxpayers money by spending $11.4 million dollars on an apartment, said the Green Party today.
“Spending $11.5 million on an apartment for a public servant is a very unwise use of money,” said Green Party global affairs spokesperson Dr Kennedy Graham.
“This is just another case of wasteful spending by a Ministry already under fire for its use of the public purse.
“We know apartments in Manhattan are expensive, but an 80sqm apartment comes to an average of $1.5 million.
“MFAT really needs to front with why they bought this particular apartment and the process that went behind choosing it.
“If Murray McCully and MFAT don’t want to come under repeated scrutiny for their spending habits, they need start making better and more transparent public cases for their spending,” said Dr Graham.
