The Summary Offences (Move-on Orders) Amendment Bill gives Police broad powers to remove people, as young as 14, from public spaces for up to 24 hours - even when no crime has been committed. It essentially criminalises poverty and targets people who are homeless, begging, or simply seen as “disruptive,” while expanding police powers to detain and demand personal information. Failing to comply can lead to fines, and breaching a move-on order carries penalties of up to 3 months imprisonment or a $2,000 fine.
