National Party campaign thrown into chaos

The National Party’s election campaign has been thrown into chaos with the sacking of John Key’s minister Judith Collins over dirty politics allegations, Green Party Co-leader Metiria Turei said today.

“The National Party’s election campaign has been thrown into chaos by the dirty politics scandal,” Mrs Turei said.

“National is totally immersed in dirty politics and John Key condoned it.

“John Key should have sacked Judith Collins the minute the extent of her involvement in dirty politics was revealed. Instead he sat on his hands until public pressure forced him to act.

“The bar for John Key and his ministers is public outrage rather than doing the right thing from the outset.

“The latest revelations that Justice Minister Judith Collins was ‘gunning’ for the chief executive of the SFO are very disturbing. But the fact is Ms Collins has shown herself to be an unsuitable minister for a long time.

“In Government the Green Party will rebuild our democracy and give New Zealanders confidence that ministers are working for us, not themselves.

“We are today renewing our call for a commission of inquiry into all of the allegations involving dirty politics and the National Government. The latest events demonstrate how vital this is,” said Mrs Turei.

The Green Party complaint to the police about Ms Collins is still being assessed.
