Join in solidarity with striking workers across the motu!

On 23 October 2025, unions in towns and cities all over Aotearoa New Zealand will be striking in a coordinated protest of the government's anti-worker and anti-Te Tiriti actions. Healthcare workers, teachers, and others in the public sector want safe staffing and fair pay. Since the NACT First government has refused to provide workers with what they need in order to do their jobs, unions have responded by organising the biggest walk-off in 40 years.

Below is a list of events organised by unions throughout the Central Otago Branch. These are not Green Party organised events, but Green Members and supporters are encouraged to participate in solidarity.

  • Cromwell (11:00am-1:00pm): Gather under "The Fruit" to picket

  • Alexandra (11:00am-1:00pm): Picket at Molyneux Park

  • Wānaka (11:00am-12:00pm): Meet outside Kaiwhakapai for a community rally and petition signing

  • Queenstown (11:00am-1:00pm): Picket and rally on the grass verge, by the side of the road between the Pak n Save roundabout and K Mart
