The Green Party has committed to funding and delivering level crossing removals in Auckland, allowing for better safety outcomes, more frequent trains, and fewer delays.

“The Green Party will work with Auckland Council to identify the best options to fund and deliver level crossing removals, so West Auckland can experience the full benefits of the City Rail Link,” says Green Party Co-leader Marama Davidson.

“This is fundamentally about safety. Right now, these crossings create risks for people every single day, whether they're walking, cycling, driving, or catching public transport."

"Over the last decade, we've seen almost 70 crashes and hundreds of near misses at level crossings across Auckland.”

“People shouldn't have to worry about their safety when simply getting around their own neighbourhood."

The removal work is desperately needed so that the CRL can run at its full capacity of 48 trains an hour. Removing the crossings also means AT can run more than 12 trains an hour on the Western Line, which they currently cannot do.

Green Party Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick says, “Congestion sucks - time and money and stress. This common-sense investment unclogs our roads and doubles the capacity of our Western train line, unlocking the potential of the City Rail Link.”

“Our country currently loses billions in productivity with almost half of our population wasting time sitting in traffic. Auckland Council wants to get the job done on these level crossings, and the Greens are here to make it happen,” says Swarbrick.
