Julie Anne believes that everyone in Rongotai should have a quality and affordable home, whether they rent or own.

Owning a home remains unachievable for most in Rongotai, and renters are forced to settle for overpriced and mouldy homes.

One in four Rongotai households are often damp, and one in five are mouldy.

Far too many Wellingtonians are forced to live with the constant stress of not knowing whether or not they will be able to pay the rent or their mortgage. Thousands are forced to pay through the roof to live in cold, damp, and unhealthy homes that are making them sick and lock them in poverty.

We need to regulate out of control rents and build more decent and affordable housing, so that everyone in our community can put down roots.

Julie Anne will stand up for renters and first-home buyers in Rongotai, and work to end Rongotai’s housing crisis.

Our plan:

  • Limit rent increases to 3% a year
  • Introduce a Rental Warrant of Fitness to ensure all homes in Wellington are safe, warm, and healthy
  • Accelerate public housing construction to clear Wellington’s waitlist within 5 years and end homelessness
  • Introduce incentives for green and accessible housing, connected to great public transport
  • Extend the Income-Related Rent Subsidy to Wellington’s 3,000 council housing tenants.
