Luxon’s Government shreds climate consensus

Late last night, the Government announced some of the most significant sweeping changes in recent memory to destroy climate action.

“Under the cover of night, Christopher Luxon’s Government announced their most significant destruction of climate action yet,” says Green Party Co-leader, Chlöe Swarbrick.

“You cannot trust the National Party. They supported the cross-partisan Zero Carbon Act and now, in Government, are stripping the Climate Change Commission of its powers.

“Christopher Luxon promised New Zealanders he would abide by our climate commitments. In Government, he’s shown himself a liar by halving methane emissions targets, and now removing consideration of meeting the Paris Agreement from Emissions Trading Scheme settings, while making it easier to hand out taxpayer money to polluting corporations.

“Make no mistake, Luxon’s Government is making decisions for the benefit of big business at the expense of people and planet.

“A climate resilient and flourishing country and economy is entirely possible. The first step to getting there is kicking out Luxon and his corporate cronies,” says Chlöe Swarbrick.
