Benjamin Doyle (Ngāpuhi, Te Kapotai, Te Popoto, Pākehā) is a fierce advocate for ngā mokopuna me te taiao. Benjamin (they/them) is takatāpui, tangata whaikaha, a parent, and a teacher, who brings all of their communities with them to Parliament.

Prior to entering politics, Benjamin was a Kirikiriroa-based high school teacher of classics, art history, education for sustainability, and te reo Māori. Most recently, they worked as the Pou Whakahaere Māori at Burnett Foundation (previously New Zealand Aids Foundation) while studying towards their PhD in Māori education. Their Master's thesis is titled “Mana Takatāpui: Self-determination for queer rangatahi Māori”, which seeks to generate understanding of the factors that enable LGBTQI+ Māori youth to embody and enact tino rangatiratanga. Each of these past experiences informs Benjamin’s work as the Green Party spokesperson for Takatāpui and Rainbow Communities, ACC, Internal Affairs, Associate Health (Sexual & Reproductive Health), and Associate Education (Māori & ECE).

With the foundational knowledge that we are all descendants of Papatūānuku, Benjamin takes their responsibilities to our taiao seriously by fighting for climate justice. Benjamin’s fight for climate justice is a fight for Te Tiriti o Waitangi justice, as they are one and the same. Our efforts for climate justice and Te Tiriti o Waitangi justice is what we use to achieve a free Palestine, free Kanaky, free West Papua, free Congo – freedom for all Indigenous peoples globally from continued colonisation. No one is free until we are all free.

Benjamin fundamentally believes that there can be no justice without radical and transformational love. Looking up to taniwha such as Bell Hooks, Audre Lorde, Moana Jackson, and Georgina Beyer, they heed the call to advocate for a balance restored, where we build up our people and our planet while simultaneously dismantling what never has and never will serve Aotearoa New Zealand, a politic of radical love, and a politic that imagines the impossible.
