The entire coalition Government has made life harder for New Zealanders, which will continue regardless of who is leader, says the Green Party.
This morning, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon announced that he will not step down as Prime Minister and National Party Leader.
Green Party Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick says, “Every single MP for National, ACT and New Zealand First is responsible for the highest rate of unemployment in over a decade and a higher cost of living for New Zealanders.”
“As the National Party tussle about who should be in the top job, they continue to show their focus is on anything other than what matters to the people of this country.”
“They’ve had three years to sort things out. Instead, they’ve handed billions to landlords, increased people’s bills and climate changing emissions, decimated the construction sector and thrown our natural environment on the chopping block.”
“They’ve wasted Parliament and the country’s time on dangerous and divisive culture wars, and painted targets on the back of minority groups.”
“New Zealanders deserve better, and that’s why the Greens are proud to continue our work in the community and across the country for a government that makes bills affordable, nature healthy, and politics honest.”
Green Party Co-leader Marama Davidson says “A new National Party leader wasn’t going to change the rising cost of living and growing pressure on families. Only a new government will.”
“The problem isn't just the party leader, the problem is the entire coalition and the choices they have made.”
“New Zealand deserve a government that works for them, one that cares about each other and the nature we share, one that will take on mega-corporate profits, one that will fight for affordable groceries, electricity, and housing.”
“Only the Greens are willing to put all of us first, not just the super rich few. The Green Party will be the party that ensures our people and planet thrive,” says Davidson.
