I’ve built a career across both the arts and business, working in creative and commercial environments. I’m energised by people, conversation and connection.

Ryan Richards (he/him) Upper Harbour

I grew up in Mosgiel, Otago, and have lived in Auckland for nearly two decades. I’m married and a parent to a young daughter.

I trained as an actor at Toi Whakaari in Wellington, and my career spans theatre, television, film and comedy as both an actor and writer-producer. Alongside my creative work, I’ve built a career in business in senior leadership and growth roles across the technology and services sectors.

Over time, I’ve become increasingly concerned about the growing gap between those who are doing well and those who are struggling, and the kind of future we’re building as a country. I believe in an Aotearoa where everyone has what they need to live a dignified life, and where we take seriously our responsibility to look after the natural world.

I believe practical, fair economic change is both possible and necessary for the future of our communities and the environment.
