Climate change policy

Strategic priorities

  • Providing the public with the latest climate change-related evidence, as part of a regular accountability statement that enables all New Zealanders to be part of the solution.
  • Prioritising scientifically robust methods for carbon sequestration, including in soils, that occur through the restoration of native ecosystems.
  • Proactively identifying disproportionately impacted people (e.g., women, those with a disability, and remote communities) and supporting them to develop and implement inclusive plans to avoid physical, social and economic harm.

This is a image/text section header

This text can be edited in the content section however you need to tag the <p> tag with a style that forces it to be our body copy size, this text has the code in it, just go to the content section and click the <> and copy paste the styling from it.

Notice that also the image is scaling from the center and on a wide screen it shows more of the image. On a typical 1440 laptop screen it looks square but on wide it will be a rectangle. this module still needs a bit of tweaking and it also needs a decent amount of text to look decent. But not a bible so that it gets too tall.

Noting that buttons dont work as tags on here so we use the button class and add to content section under the copy. like so like this.

Green Party to abolish training wage and provide more support for apprentices

The Green Party will abolish the training wage, so people aren’t forced to live in poverty while they learn on the job. “A strong economy needs a strong workforce. We will ensure apprentices are paid properly for their work, supporting more tradies on and into the job,” says Green Party Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick. "We need to more homes and renewable energy, which means we need a skilled workforce of builders, electricians, plumbers, mechanics, and other tradespeople to make it happen.”...

Greens give councils tools to fund tourist infrastructure

The Green Party has announced it will ensure councils get the tools they’ve been asking for, including a bed levy, to fund the infrastructure visitors use. “Councils and the communities they represent want a bed levy to reduce the pressure on ratepayers and support the tourism they’re asked to absorb. The Greens will make it happen,” says Green Party Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick.  “From Auckland to Queenstown, Mayors don’t care about central government politicians’ squabbles about whether a levy is a tax....

The Green Party has committed to funding and delivering level crossing removals in Auckland, allowing for better safety outcomes, more frequent trains, and fewer delays.“The Green Party will work with Auckland Council to identify the best options to fund and deliver level crossing removals, so West Auckland can experience the full benefits of the City Rail Link,” says Green Party Co-leader Marama Davidson. “This is fundamentally about safety. Right now, these crossings create risks for people every single day, whether...

ACT’s welfare for the wealthiest

The Green Party says the ACT Party's Fiscal Plan, released today, hands more money to the super-rich and pays for it by cutting support for disabled people. “The ACT Party’s Fiscal Plan is welfare for the wealthiest. 47,000 more children are living in poverty today than were three years ago. This plan continues to shovel money upwards, starving everyone else,” says Green Party Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick.  “The cutting of KiwiSaver Government contributions and removal of tax on gains will most benefit...

The Green Party has announced its plan to protect the Hauraki Gulf, including closing Luxon’s carve-outs for commercial fishers, phasing out bottom trawling and protecting 30% of it by 2030.“Everyone loves the Hauraki Gulf. We’re supposed to protect and look after the things we love. National must come clean on climate

This morning the Prime Minister walked back his Trade Minister blaming the Greens, and is now blaming journalists, over an official complaint laid at the European Union over his Government breaching the EU-NZ Trade Agreement.“Luxon's Government is blaming everyone else for the consequences of their own decisions to shred climate action, instead of looking in the mirror and doing the right thing,” says Green Party Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick. “The Greens have spent the entire term of Parliament warning about the...

Foreign Affairs Minister fails to seek advice on leaving Paris Agreement

The Green Party has discovered Minister of Foreign Affairs, Winston Peters, has neither sought nor received any advice on what it would mean for New Zealand to withdraw from the Paris Agreement, while his party campaigns on taking the country out of it. "The majority of current Government coalition parties are ramping up the campaign to remove our country from the world's main climate change agreement, but the Minister of Foreign Affairs hasn't asked his officials a single question about what...

Luxon undermines economic resilience

The Green Party says the Pre-election Economic and Fiscal Update (PREFU) shows this Government has failed to deliver a resilient economy that works for New Zealanders.“Luxon’s fiscal hole is in New Zealanders’ wallets, the empty shops in our towns and the gap in action required to meet the climate crisis,” says Green Party Co-leader and Finance spokesperson Chlöe Swarbrick. “Hope is not a plan, but it’s clear that’s all this Government has as they sit on their hands and hope...

The Green Party says other parties should get behind a wealth tax after a new Ipsos survey shows almost two-thirds of New Zealanders back the party's policy.“New Zealanders know our infrastructure is falling apart and they know that the super wealthy are not paying their fair share. They want a country that works for all of us, which is why they want a wealth tax,” says Green Party Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick. The latest Ipsos Issues Monitor surveyed 1,003 people between...

The Green Party is calling on all parties and political organisations to reject the tactics used by the Taxpayers’ Union, as documented in Nicky Hager’s book."New Zealanders don’t like politics precisely because of the shady behaviour of organisations like the Taxpayers Union. Differences of opinion are expected in a democracy, but underhanded, nasty tactics should not be. This is where the political leaders can and should draw the line," says Green Party Co-leader, Chlöe Swarbrick. "Dirty Work shows how the...
